Remarkably, his memorable night could have been even more significant. Valverde disclosed in an interview with TNT Sports Brazil that Vinicius Junior, who earned a second-half penalty, offered him the opportunity to take the spot-kick.

Valverde recounted, "Yes, yes, he asked me (if I wanted to take the penalty). Vinicius is an incredibly important player for us; a true legend at the club, and a great friend. However, I told him to take it himself – a sentiment many of my teammates shared."
