Real Madrid’s Three Options to Strengthen Centre-Back Position

Real Madrid is preparing to enter the transfer market this summer to bolster its defense. Unlike previous seasons where deals might have been finalized by April, this year's situation is different, with three main options emerging for Los Blancos.

While two new defensive additions were initially considered, a potential contract extension for Antonio Rudiger might mean only one new player is sought. Previously, Real Madrid reportedly invested €60 million in Dean Huijsen last summer, and Raul Asencio was integrated into the first-team squad late last season.

Real Madrid Targets Nico Schlotterbeck

Nico Schlotterbeck is frequently mentioned in connection with Real Madrid, and RadioMarca reports that he is indeed a target for Los Blancos. Conversely, Borussia Dortmund is actively trying to renew his contract before the summer. Real Madrid has also reportedly held discussions with Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate, who is stated to be out of contract this summer, though he seems to have dropped on their priority list since last year.

Jacobo Ramon's Situation at Como

Matteo Moretto further reports that Como manager Cesc Fabregas and Real Madrid are both pleased with Jacobo Ramon's progress in Serie A. The 21-year-old defender moved from Castilla for €2.5 million, and Real Madrid retains a buy-back option: €8 million this summer or €9 million next summer. The intention is to activate this clause either this year or the following.

The precise factor influencing this decision remains undisclosed, but Ramon is considered a likely successor to Rudiger whenever his departure from the Bernabéu occurs. Should Schlotterbeck or Konate join, they would likely contend for a starting position, with cost potentially being a crucial determinant. If Real Madrid can negotiate a lower price with Dortmund – who reportedly seek at least €50 million for Schlotterbeck – he might become the top choice.
